When it comes to blowing blues harmonica, I mean the real deal, true harp mojo, there are only a few players that immediately come to mind. Perry Musaraca is one of those true blues harmonica players. I would compare him to Paul Butterfield, Charlie Musselwhite, or even Sugar Blue. The list goes on and on.

Perry is perhaps the most talented harp player in the Fox Valley area. There are a few others, but he is certainly in the top few. His style is very reminiscent of Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. It is Perry’s harmonica that is arguably the most critical element of the overall sound of 61 Beale Streets new sound. The band targets music that specifically features and utilizes his talents.

Not only is Perry one of the great players in the area, but is one heck of a nice guy. Having played in numerous bands for some 40 years or so, he adds a special texture to any band both musically and show-wise, and sets it a notch above the others.

The next time you come out to catch a 61 show, be sure to pay special attention to the harp player. You’ll be amazed by his power and skill as a player. And, if you get a chance, don’t forget to tell him so in person too.
